Last year we were given a play house built by the 8th graders at the middle school. However, I wanted to alter it and it occurred to me over the summer to change it into an acoustic shell!
I remember them from the days when I sang in choir and I thought it would be a great way to repurpose the house and provide a defined space for instruments to go.
I took off the front of the house and rotated the roof. I also stenciled the words “Acoustic Shell” because I wanted everyone to name it correctly. Best of all it is open so there are no line of sight issues.
I still have yet to figure out how to attach the instruments to the wall. One idea was some sort of a wooden clamp, but I haven’t quite experimented with that yet.
Also, the ‘floor’ was sand, but I at least put down some concrete tiles.. but I don’t have a way to easily cut the tiles so they fit perfectly in the shell.
As a side note, I thought it might be neat to put a picture of a giant shell on it so the kids would remember the name, but I didn’t get around to it.
