I gathered the pine needles from a branch and either pulled or cut them into a little cup. Then once the dough was made, I had the kids stir it in.
What you’ll need:
- 2 teaspoons cream of tarter
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Green coloring (I used 5 drops of water color)
- 1.5 cups flour (plus more on the table)
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 cup boiling water
I put the tarter, oil and green coloring in a bowl. Then I had the kids take turns measuring the flour and salt. Then the boiling water was stirred in. Then we stirred everything together in a big bowl with a spatula, then added the pine needles. Once the dough was cool enough, I had them dump it on the floured table and they continued kneading it. I also brought out our plastic bugs and lizards to join in the fun.
Note: I’ve also seen that you can steep the pine needles overnight with water to get a stronger pine scent, or even add pine essential oil! That’d be really neat!
