In researching types of saws to get I discovered that a jigsaw is the most useful. It can make curved cuts and circles, and most importantly be turned into a make-shift band saw!

This one was pretty inexpensive about $30 and I purchased some extra blades too $15 & $4 (which is the one I will use as a bandsaw blade)
However, it really doesn’t work well for cutting longer straight cuts. The blade tends to drift off course.
Even with a guide board this can happen! At some point I’ll have to get a circular saw to really have straight lines.
The best jigsaw tip I found is to go very slow.
Also, if you have thinner wood that might splinter, another trick is to put masking tape on it first.
