The idea:
I wanted to have photos of the laminated and stick magnets on the backs. I imagined the kids having all sorts of fun organizing them into friend groups and such.
The process:
We printed out mini photos of all the kids and laminated the pages. Then attached them to magnetic sheets which were then cut into little magnets a inch or two long.
What happened:
They were quickly destroyed. For several reasons:
- the laminate peeled off
- they became discolored in the sun
- they weren’t durable and were easily bent
- the kids could easily pull off the magnet backs
Lamination only seems to work when the photo has a large edge that doesn’t split. These didn’t have that much of a border so when some of them got wet they soaked right through. Tricky stuff that laminate! Also, even though the magnet sheets were sticky, the laminate made a very smooth surface which was easy to peel off.
I found some other great options on Pinterest though!
*wood cookies (this seems the most promising as they add durability to the photos)
* glass beads (although I’d have to hand cut little shapes and there wouldn’t be an easy way to keep them a standardized size)
* mod podge photo (maybe would work with outdoor mod podge)
