This week I thought I’d use those hammering skills we worked on a couple weeks ago.
What you’ll need:
- letter stamp kit
- hammer
- steel block
- pennies
- eye protection
- needle nose pliers
I brought out all the equipment and laid it on the table. To protect the table, I had a large piece of cardboard with a few cotton towels sandwiched in between. I also had ziplock bags, a permanent marker.
The process:
I asked the kids to put on their goggles, then had them pick a penny. Then I opened up the box and had the child find their initial of their first name.
Then I taped the penny down, made sure I had the stamp facing the right way, and had the kid hit the stamp on the top. If it didn’t work, I just kept having them hit it and moved the stamp slightly so the blow was making an impression.
The kids were amazed that the letter just appeared!
After the child was done, I’d put it in a ziploc bag with their full name written on the side.
Part two of this is me drilling or punching a hole in the penny and adding a jump ring, then it could be a necklace, bracelet, or keyring.
